Change In Time Series
Reflecting on both my own experiences and those of my family surrounding trauma, these paintings explore themes of breaking cycles and healing. Through this exploration, I began to examine the idea of change, particularly how it is attached to the passage of time. To better understand each individual’s unique journey, I sifted through my family’s collection of photos, selecting images of myself and my family members at various stages of our lives. I then merged these different ages into a single piece for each person, capturing the complexity of our personal paths within the broader cycle of our family’s experience. Through this artistic journey, I am uncovering specific patterns within my family and how they have evolved over time, continuing to influence our daily lives, all with the aim of fostering deeper healing.
"Time is on My Side" | 2023 | oil on canvas | 48" x 48" _____________________________________________________________________ This self-portrait merges my present self with my younger self. The younger versions appear scared and disinterested, while my current self paints the canvas from both sides. It symbolizes how healing has always been intertwined with my creative journey, illustrating that change and growth are possible over time, if only you are patient with yourself.

"Time to Shine" | 2024 | oil on canvas | 36" x 66"

"Time is of the Essence" | 2023 | oil on canvas | 36" x 36" ____________________________________________________________________ This painting portrays my grandmother at various stages of her life. The younger version is still and focused, while the older version remains undefined and fragmented, with multiple representations. My grandmother worked three jobs, dedicating herself to providing the best life she could for her family, but never took the time to care for herself.

"One Day at a Time" | 2023 | oil on canvas | 36" x 36" _____________________________________________________________________ This piece portrays my grandfather at different points in time, smoking a cigarette. He was a master of living fully in the present, regardless of the circumstances around him. He remained calm and always took time to think before acting, teaching me the importance of these qualities—traits that are crucial in the process of healing.

"Narcissus Blooming" | 2024 | oil on panel | 48" x 36"

"Better Late Than Never" | 2024 | oil on canvas | 20" x 30"

"Every Season Changes" | 2024 | oil on canvas | 18" x 24" _____________________________________________________________________ This piece specifically depicts my uncle, who has struggled with change his whole life, at various ages. I was aiming to show how personal growth and transformation unfold throughout a lifetime. To further emphasize this concept, I manipulated both the color palette and composition of the piece, using these artistic choices to visually reinforce the idea of change. The shifting hues and arrangement mirror the evolving nature of his journey, symbolizing how time and experience shape who we become.
